PBL TERM 3

In term 3 Totara hub did project based learning.First we had to take notes and put them into sentences in our literacy book and we had to put them in our own words,We had to write it all in our literacy book.Next we had to make a doc for all our information and put it in subheadings like medals, the rings, the Olympic torch, the Olympics, traditions and ceremonies. After that I had to do a plan about my artefact for my double door format and at first I was doing a poster but then I added some doors.Next I had to do a report  and we had to to a introduction and a conclusion and the introduction was for what the reader know's what it is about and the conclusion was  for the ending and you don't put anymore facts in.After I finish my report we got to start my artefact and for my double door format for the doors where red and pink colours and I have to print my info and glue it onto my double door format. This was a challenge for me because I write it first but it did not work out so I did it on the back and it did not work so a made a Google doc and type up Modern Olympics for my title. The learning muscle I used was the noticing muscle because I had to look out for the word Olympics because I always had a started with not a capital letter. I also used my perseverance muscle because I kept trying when it was time to make my artifact.
Here is my report:

Medals
At the ancient Olympics they used olive wreaths instead of gold, silver, bronze medals. In Ancient Greece olive wreaths were special because they came from Mt Olympus because the Greek gods came from there like Zeus, and Nike the goddess is of victory . In 1904 at St Louis, USA the IOC (International Olympic Committee) decided to give out medals instead of  olive wreaths. Nike the goddess is the daughter of the giant pallas, Nike the goddess is on all of the medals with the roman numbers like IX,VIII which symbolizes the Olympic games the medals were won in. The medals are 60mm and 3mm wide and the gold medal is a silver medal because the IOC they have just dipped into a layer of gold.

Rings
In 1912 founder Baron Pierre de Coubertin made the Olympic rings for the modern Olympic games and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) decided to make a Olympic flag with 5 interlocking rings, the colours are blue, yellow, black, green and red. Today the Olympic rings do not represent continents as they did in 1951, now they stand for every countries flag.

Torch/Flame
In Ancient Greece they believed that fire was kind to give to people and had sacred qualities, this tradition was followed at the Olympic games and that is how they started the Olympic torch/flame. The Olympic flame represents the greek mythology and the Olympic torch is to connect with the ancient game and the modern counterpart. The modern use of the Olympic flame started in 1936.

All about the Olympics
France, Great Britain, Germany and Greece had the biggest number of athletes participating in the first ever Olympic Games. Starting in 1992 the summer Olympics and winter games had been traditionally been held every 4 years, and took place every two years apart. The Summer Olympic Games or the Games of the Olympiad were first held in modern era in 1896 Athens, Greece. The modern Olympics games are based on the Olympic games in Ancient Greece.
