Design all around us
By Jan Anderson

We are learning to use clues in the text and our prior knowledge to understand what we are reading.

1. What is design?Design is  a way of changing life
2. Describe how something made out of plastic in your own words.Milk bottles are made to hold milk, sandwich bags are made to hold sandwiches, plastic bags hold food.
3. Why do designers use chrome-plating? It protects the steel from rusting.
4. What makes a classic design? It looks good and works well.
5. What is one difference between houses hundreds of years ago and modern houses?
They had very simple designs and small windows.

This is a reading task and it is about design from the 1950's. I have been learning about all designs in my reading group called the Tuatara.
To get all these  answers I got them from the book. We do reading task because so we can get better at using our noticing  muscle. We found the answers in the book and I used my noticing muscle to find the answers.
Here is a question and put the answer in the comment box: Why was Olden day houses made out of bricks?

Matariki

Matariki is a celebration for the Maori new year. Matariki celebrates the seven stars of Matariki. Matariki is in the middle of the year in June. Matariki is a special time of year four the Maori people. When we did Matariki I learnt how to cook Maori food like fish pie and fry bread. On Friday we went to the hall to watch Kahurangi and they were amazing and for their introduction was a song from the Maori culture. One of the show's they did was a story called Maui and the fish. They sang lots of song's and they were in Maori words and they were awesome.

Art blog post

I have been learning to blend the colours in with each other and use the colours dark, medium, light.Something that has  challenged me is the  vanishing point so the road looks like it goes in the distance.I have been learning to blend the colours in with each other and I think I did a good job of it.

Hockey on the weekend

On Saturday I played hockey with Te Au and Daniel and Balin. Parkvale  Hill had to play Onekawa Stingers and they  could be hard.
This is my hockey team: Caitlyn A, Balin, Te Au, Daniel (sometimes), Owen, Victoria, Birdie, Lake, Alex ( goalkeeper).

On a sunny Saturday morning  and I got there in my dads truck to the unison sports park to play hockey. When we got there we had to wait until 11: 20 and I watch the end of  Parkvale Blue's Game, They just lost 1 - 0. Then we had to  go and warm up with Mrs Hill. Then play the game and I was playing left wing. I felt nervous when I play half a court. Game time  Parkvale start with the ball we start strong and we are going fast down to the goal but Onekawa hit it away and they get it but I tackled them and got the ball for Parkvale. After that I passed the ball to one of the people on my team. Then Caitlyn shots at gaol (goal) and miss the goal and it is  0 -0 still.

After the game we had to get our unison bags and they look cool because the bottle is orange and blue at the top and the bottom is orange. They came different then every  year. Every year it is just 1 colour.

At hockey I learnt to spin around when I have no one to pass to.

The nightingale’s tree.

What does it look like?It has 100 rooms and it is tall.
Where is it?By the beach
2. Where was the tree that the nightingale chose to make her home? By the king's palace.
3. What happened when the King turned the key on the golden bird?
The bird sang the song like the nightingale
4. What does ‘remarkable’ mean? P. 16.
Worthy of attention
What word could the author have used here instead of ‘remarkable’?
Incredible

This is my reading task and the book is called the Nightingale. I am proud of this because it took a lot of effort in to it. I have been working on this because it is important to me to finish and it took me along time to do this. Something that has challenged me is the answer's because they were hard. The nightingale is a cool book and the the king fond a bird and then he got a golden nightingale and the king turned the key and the nightingale sang it's song and the golden nightingale sang it to.In the story the king is sick.My favourite charecter (character) is the king.

This is my perimeter task I had to do for maths.
This was a challenge for me because I could not work the answers at first.
This was hard for me because it took me a very long time to do it.
I have been learning to use my Times table with my + ( example: 10 x 2 + 10 = 30.)
I enjoyed doing my maths because I learnt something new I did not know.
It was hard for me because I did not get it at first when I tryed.
